About Stage 1

Stage 1 is the industry's software-only performance step for a mechanically healthy vehicle on stock hardware — what customers call a remap, chip tuning or ECU tuning. The File revises the performance calibration inside the margins the factory left: boost or VGT targets on turbo engines, injection quantity and timing, ignition advance within knock control on petrol engines, and the torque and limiter paths that keep the car below an artificial cap. Turbo diesels gain the most, turbocharged petrol engines a moderate amount, naturally aspirated engines very little without hardware.

What to check before the write

A Stage 1 is only as safe as the car it goes on. Service history, boost leaks, a tired clutch or dual-mass flywheel, and existing fault codes decide whether the job is a good idea; the calibration itself stays inside the engine's stock hardware limits. After the write, a scanner log of boost, rail pressure and intake temperature and a road test confirm the result — a dyno is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

What to tell the customer

Wear items carry more load after a power increase, the remap is detectable by the manufacturer through calibration verification numbers and flash counters even after the original is written back, and in most countries a power increase must be declared to the insurer. The original File stays on the Solution Job, so the car can be returned to stock at any time.

How much power does a Stage 1 add?

It depends on the engine. Turbo diesels gain the most, turbocharged petrol engines a moderate amount, naturally aspirated engines very little without hardware. FILHEX does not publish per-vehicle figures; the calibration stays within the stock hardware's limits.

Is Stage 1 safe on a stock turbo and clutch?

On a mechanically healthy car the calibration stays inside the engine's stock margins. The clutch and dual-mass flywheel are the wear items that see the extra torque; a clutch that is already tired will slip after a power increase. Check the car before the job, not after.

Can a Stage 1 be reversed, and can the dealer detect it?

Yes and yes. The original File stays on the Solution Job, so the car can be returned to stock at any time. Manufacturers can still detect a remap through calibration verification numbers and flash counters, and most insurers require a power increase to be declared.

Can I combine Stage 1 with DPF or EGR Removal?

Yes. Select every Solution the job needs on the same Solution Job; one Credit covers the whole File. Emissions Solutions have their own legal limits — see the DPF and EGR pages.

What does a Stage 1 File cost on FILHEX?
